K9 Program

Officer Audrey Arbuckle and K9 Hunk, Crete Police Department; Crete, Nebraska.

The Crete Police Department’s first K9 team is handler Officer Audrey Arbuckle, and Hunk, a Belgian Malinois.

K9 Hunk is a dual purpose K9 trained in both patrol and narcotics; he turned one-year-old in October 2022.

Officer Arbuckle joined Crete PD in 2013 and is currently a senior patrol officer with a degree in Criminal Justice from Midland University. She also serves as a Field Training Officer and is a recipient of the department’s Life Saving Award.

When they are not on duty, K9 Hunk resides with Officer Arbuckle in Crete, sharing the home with her two cats, Sigrún and Loki. His food is supplied by Nestle Purina in Crete and veterinary care is provided by Lotrhop Animal Clinic.

The addition of this program was made possible by detailed research by the department and corresponding presentation to the Crete City Council in March 2022. The council approved an agreement with TCI (True Canine International) in June for a K9 purchase, training, and certification and approved a budget in September for purchase of an outfitted patrol vehicle. Officer Arbuckle and K9 Hunk completed a five-week training and Handler Certification Course in Texas through August and early September. The team passed the Nebraska state narcotics certification on Oct. 17, 2022. (Read more about the start of Crete Police Department's K9 program.)
